- An emulator is every software for a computer system "A" that allows running
- programs for a different system "B" directly on system "A". In a more strict
- definition, an emulator has to adapt the instruction set of system "A" to
- be able to run "B"'s programs. So, ShapeShifter is an emulator, but not in
- the strict sense. It creates the necessary environment to run MacOS natively,
- unlike PCTask which implements the Intel instruction set (and which is a
- "real" emulator).
-
- A _simulation_ of system "B" would go further and include a model of all
- of "B"'s hardware, data lines and internal processes. This is usually done
- with digital circuit simulators. Frodo SC is just one step above being
- a C64 simulator rather than an emulator.
